Attention current and future exchange participants. February's round is quickly approaching, and as most of you know by now this upcoming round will be a themed conservation project.
2008 is the year of the Rat around the world, but amoung Zoological parks 2008 is the Year of the Frog. Zoos and wildlife conservation groups across the globe are making an effort to protect our amphibian friends. February 2008 has been designated Leap Month (with Leap Day being the 29th, of course). In honor of this AnthroSketchXch will be "Sketching in Conservation". Participants for the upcoming month will be asked to draw their chosen one interacting with frogs, wearing frog clothing, and so on and so forth. You'll also be asked to donate at least one dollar to our selected amphibian conservation group. This group is Amphibian Ark. Amphibian Ark takes donations through Paypal. If you don't have Paypal, you can also make a donation by credit/debit card.
You'll still be allowed to participate even if you can't make the donation. And to any of you who are watching us, we ask you to donate as well. $1 might not seem like much, but when you have 50 people or more donating.. it starts to add up. Also, Amphibian Ark is a 501(c)3 orginization. What does this mean? It means if you make a large donation, you can use it as a tax write-off.
It will cost $50-$60 million to save the 500 most threatened species that are in danger of going extinct. The main goal of this campaign is to generate public awareness and understanding of the amphibian extinction crisis which represents the greatest species conservation challenge in the history of humanity. The money raised from this global campaign will help fund initiatives such as training courses, technical guidance, taxon survival efforts, fostering partnerships, capacity building, and communication activities. All these activities will ensure sustainability of the survival assurance populations of amphibians by creating a cash fund for this conservation work that will extend for beyond 2008.
You can learn more about Year of the Frog -here- or at AmphibianArk.org.
Be sure to show this to your friends and post it on your journals and galleries. The more people we can make aware of this situation and the more money we can raise to help these creatures the better!
Thanks and happy sketching!
