Wildlife Warriors: Sketching In Conservation

VOTING IS OVER. It was a close race, but a winner has been decided.

For the past 2 years, a large number of you banded together and participated to help us raise money for Amphibian conservation and the Seaworld and Busch Gardens Conservation Fund. This year, we're repeating the project. In 2010 AnthroSketchXch will be sketching in conservation to help raise money for someone who was near and dear to the hearts of many, Steven Irwin. In 2002 Australia Zoo Wildlife Warriors Worldwide Ltd was established by Steve and Terri Irwin, as a way to include and involve other caring people to support the protection of injured, threatened or endangered wildlife – from the individual animal to an entire species. Their mission is to be the most effective wildlife conservation charity in the world through the delivery of outstanding outcome-based programs and projects, inclusive of humanity. Since his passing in 2006, November 15th has been marked "Steve Irwin day" to raise money for Australia Zoo Wildlife Warriors and continue Steve’s legacy.

Participants for the upcoming month will be asked to draw their chosen one in Steve's characteristic Khaki, investigating an animal of their choosing. Because when you see that khaki uniform, it is a sign that somebody is there to get in and get their hands dirty and save an animal or campaign for wildlife conservation.

You'll also be asked to donate at least five dollars to our selected conservation group. Wildlife Warriors takes donations for the "Steve Irwin Day Appeal" on their site via Credit/Debit card. This page can be found here- http://www.wildlifewarriors.org.au/make_a_donation/index.html#oneoff When you get to the second page, click the drop down menu and select "Steve Irwin Day Appeal" as the designation.

If you cannot paypal, ask if perhaps you could send the money to a friend via paypal and have them make the donation to WW if they have a credit or debit card. You could also mail in a donation.

You'll still be allowed to participate even if you can't make the donation. And to any of you who are watching us, we ask you to donate as well! $5 might not seem like much, but when you have 50 people or more donating.. it starts to add up. Also, Wildlife Warriors is a 501(c)3 organization. What does this mean? It means if you make a large donation, you can use it as a tax write-off.

The vision of Wildlife Warriors is that people, wildlife and habitat survive and prosper without being detrimental to the existence of each other. Steve Irwin epitomised the Wildlife Warrior because he was the original; he created the term. This organisation is based on the very ideals of Steve Irwin and they will live in the hearts, the consciousness and in the daily lives of the Wildlife Warriors team as they share his dream of conservation and strive to make it a reality.

PLEASE PLEASE Be sure to show this to your friends and post it on your journals and galleries!!!! Feel free to hotlink the banner as well!! The more people we can make aware of this situation and the more money we can raise to help these creatures the better!

Thanks and happy sketching!
-Malaika

VOTING ENDS AT 8PM CENTRAL

Not much time left for voting guys! Make sure you get your vote in and help us select our charity by 8PM Central time tonight!

See you soon!

SIGN-UPS GOING UP TOMORROW

SIGN-UPS WILL BE POSTED TOMORROW AND CLOSE ON THE 5TH

I think there was some confusion with the voting for the theme. You were only supposed to vote for the Wildlife Warriors cause if you voted for them in the first place. Some of you voted for another cause, but then voted for one of the WW causes as well.

So I am going to have a 24 hour vote-off between the top 2 choices. This will hopefully eliminate some confusion and such.

SO VOTE FOR ONE OF THE FOLLOWING. THE WINNER WILL BE THE THEME/CAUSE WE SUPPORT

Poll #1555759 May's Conservation Round

What Cause Should We Support?

Animals Asia (www.animalsasia.org/)
13(50.0%)
Steve Irwin Day Appeal (http://www.wildlifewarriors.org)
13(50.0%)
Everyone please take a moment to vote in the following poll(s) so we can figure out a cause to donate to for the May conservation round!

Poll #1544412 Sketching in Conservation 2010

What Charity Should We Support?

Ocean Conservancy (www.oceanconservancy.org)
6(24.0%)
WCS - Ocean Giants (www.wcs.org/donate.aspx)
1(4.0%)
WCS - Madagascar (www.wcs.org/donate.aspx)
2(8.0%)
Animals Asia (www.animalsasia.org/)
9(36.0%)
Wildlife Warriors (www.wildlifewarriors.org)
7(28.0%)

If you choose Wildlife Warriors, then please answer the following poll

Which Wildlife Warrior Cause Would You Like To Support?

Australian Wildlife Hospital
2(12.5%)
Steve Irwin Day Appeal
8(50.0%)
African Wildlife Conservation
6(37.5%)

New Beginnings, New Charity Round?

ALRIGHT

Sorry it has taken me so long to get back to you all. Vacation -> comp kicked the bucket -> non-stop work has taken up a bit of my time. But I am here noooow!

SO, it was decided by you all that you wanted to nix the blacklist and give everyone the chance to start over. SO IT SHALL BE DONE. However, we will be removing a few people from the community who are notorious for not turning in artwork, unless they prove that they can change that.

I think we'll wait to start our new round til May. This gives us time to clean up and get the word out that we're restarting.

Now, the one thing I really missed this year and enjoy looking back on has been our charity rounds. I know we usually have them in February, but seeing as that has come and gone and Endangered Species Day is in May.. how would you all feel about starting up again with a new charity round?

If so, does anyone have any suggestions on what we should be supporting this year? When we first started, we donated to Amphibian Ark as part of Year of the Frog. Last year everyone banded together to support SeaWorld and Bush Gardens Conservation Fund. Does anyone know of any worthy causes this year? It can be animal specific or something like SW&BG. So please share your suggestions!

One I would like to suggest is Ocean Conservancy

http://www.oceanconservancy.org (they're currently taking donations to save arctic wildlife)

I also like

Defenders of Wildife http://www.defenders.org/

Or we could pick from one of Wildlife Conservation Society's causes

http://www.wcs.org/donate.aspx (either the Ocean Giants or Madagascar)

So let's hear it!

Mar. 8th, 2010

So here's the next question.

If we were to restart again, how would you all feel about giving everyone a "get out of jail free card" so to speak? A good number of our members are on the blacklist for a couple years back and I think a lot of people have just lost or forgotten assignments and in turn a lot of the people the blacklist people were supposed to draw are also on the blacklist and not posting. So this is just a chance to give everyone a free chance to come back and participate.

I know people kinda poo-poo on these sorts of things, but it could help get us back to the fun days of having 50+ people sign-up instead of the last few rounds which were like 10-20.

I'll screen comments just in case.
I know a lot of you liked this community and some expressed interest in wanting it to be active again. I do have a bit more time now, but still not enough to full divert myself to this. I don't want to hand it over completely, but is there anyone who would like to take on sending out assigments and those sorts of tasks? That is mostly where my problem lies.

Our reviewers have also gotten busy from what I understand, so I guess we would need a new group of reviewers if we were to keep this community going as well. We had 4+ myself last time. Is anyone interested in that?

Otherwise I think this community may go on hiatus for an unknown amount of time.
